Train Your Dog To Be The Dog You Want

It is quite certain that the more training your dog has, the better your overall relationship together will be. A well-trained dog is a more pleasant companion and makes owning a pet more rewarding. So to enhance your relationship with your dog, read on!

  • A dog needs a healthy diet as much as a dog owner does. It is entirely up to you to provide a good diet for your pet. Poor nutrition adversely affects your dog’s health and can cause uncharacteristic behavior. Simply enhancing a dog’s diet can make a big difference in its receptiveness to training.

  • Ensure that your dog gets enough activity. When dogs have nothing to do, they can get bored. If your dog is not receiving enough mental stimulation, it may not respond well to training. If you have a happy, exercised dog, they will listen better. Go for a long walk with your dog.

  • Always remain consistent when crate training any young pups. Shortly after you allow your puppy to exit the crate, he must be given the chance to relieve himself in the designated area. As time passes, your puppy will start to be able to use the restroom at the appropriate times.

  • You will have to repeat commands several times before your dog learns it. You may need to repeat the same command lesson from 25 to 30 times before your dog learns it. Being patient while trying the same task or command will allow your dog to understand it.

  • Your dog must respect you in order for training to work. You must establish your dominance first and foremost, or your dog is unlikely to obey. Avoid allowing your dog to lead you during walks. Instead, walk in front of your dog to show that you are the leader of this pack.

  • Be prepared to reward the dog as soon as it completes a positive behavior. It is important for your pet to understand that you have certain expectations, what those expectations are, and that he will be rewarded for complying. Doing so leaves no question as to whether a behavior is considered acceptable or strictly forbidden.

  • Do not spend too much time in any one training session with your dog. If you spend a lot of time on only one thing, your dog can get bored and frustrated. Early on, your training sessions should be limited to less than 10 minutes.

  • Dogs need at least 60 minutes of exercise time every day, on top of training and bathroom breaks. When your dog gets adequate exercise, he can be trained more effectively and it can bring out your dog’s good behavior. An exercised dog leads to having a responsive and happy dog.

  • Your dog must learn that there is no need for it to respond to your utterance of the word ‘no.’ It is important to be positive when you are training your dog. Just simply telling your dog ‘no’ doesn’t help him or her in understanding how to properly react. There is a difference in all dogs and training should be customized.

  • A good way to reduce the level of barking come from your dog, is to immerse them in their barking triggers so that they get used to them. This can be things like sounds, smells, or proximity to other creatures. Your dog will eventually come to realize that barking is unnecessary in reaction to these triggers.

  • Don’t give a puppy too much information and training at once, or you’ll wear him out. Your puppy has a very short attention span, so start out with short sessions, and try to keep things enjoyable for both you and your pup. If you try to teach too much, he won’t like the training sessions and won’t remember everything. This will only frustrate you over time.

  • If you teach your dog the right way to act at the beginning you will have a good dog. Your dog should learn the right ways of doing things instead of developing bad habits that will need to be corrected later on. Don’t give the dog food from the table if you don’t want him to beg for food later.
